Johnson Controls Metasys & Niagara Installation, Programming & Service

JCI controls under the front end that fits the building: a Metasys server or a Niagara 4 supervisor. We install, expand, program, and service both.

Johnson Controls systems run under one of two front ends, and we install both. Metasys is JCI's native platform and one of the most widely installed building automation systems in North American hospitals, universities, and commercial buildings: CG and CV field controllers (successors to the FEC, FAC, and VMA), SNE and SNC network engines supervising each trunk, and a Metasys server with the Metasys UI on top, now at Metasys 16. The Niagara option is JCI's Facility Explorer line: FX90 supervisory controllers and FX Server built on Niagara 4, with FX-PC field controllers, which puts JCI controllers on the same open framework as the rest of a mixed-vendor portfolio. Vertex installs new JCI systems on either front end, adds controllers and equipment to existing sites, programs and commissions them, and upgrades older NAE engines and N2 controllers that are now past Johnson Controls' end of support.

WHAT WE DO ON JOHNSON CONTROLS

Metasys or Niagara front ends

New JCI installs under a Metasys server or a Niagara 4 front end, chosen around what the building already runs and how the owner wants it serviced.

New installs and expansions

Network engines, field controllers, and sensors engineered, installed, and wired for new construction, additions, and equipment replacements, and added to existing sites on the same system.

Programming, graphics, and commissioning

Controller applications, sequences of operation, Metasys UI or Niagara graphics, trends, and alarms, verified point by point at commissioning.

Service, upgrades, and integration

Troubleshooting, NAE-to-SNE and SNC upgrades, legacy N2 controller replacements, and BACnet or Niagara integration with the other systems in the building.

JOHNSON CONTROLS PRODUCT LINES WE WORK WITH

  • Metasys server and Metasys UI
The Metasys front end on ADS or ADX servers: graphics, scheduling, trends, and alarms across the site's network engines.
  • SNE and SNC network engines
Current Metasys network engines; the SNE replaces the NAE35, NAE45, and NAE55, and the SNC, with built-in I/O, replaces the NCE25.
  • CG and CV field controllers
CGM and CVM controllers for equipment and VAV boxes on BACnet MS/TP or N2, and CGE and CVE on BACnet/IP and BACnet/SC; successors to the FEC, FAC, and VMA.
  • FEC, FAC, and VMA
The previous generation of Metasys field controllers, still common in existing buildings.
  • Facility Explorer FX90, FX Server, and FX-PC
JCI's Niagara 4-based supervisory controllers and server, with FX-PC programmable field controllers.
  • NAE engines and N2 controllers (end of support)
NAE network engines and legacy N2 controllers, now past Johnson Controls' end of support and the main candidates for upgrade.

TYPICAL PROJECTS

Metasys additions and renovations

New wings, floors, and tenant fit-outs added to an existing Metasys system with matching controllers, graphics, and point naming.

JCI on a Niagara front end

Facility Explorer FX90 supervisors putting JCI controllers on Niagara 4, alongside the other brands in a mixed-vendor portfolio.

NAE and N2 end-of-support upgrades

NAE engines replaced with SNE or SNC hardware, and legacy N2 controllers replaced with CGM and CVM controllers that run on the existing N2 bus, so the site can move to BACnet one trunk at a time.

Equipment replacements

New air handlers, rooftop units, and VAV boxes controlled and integrated into the existing JCI system as part of an equipment replacement.

FAQ

Johnson Controls questions we hear

Should our JCI system run Metasys or Niagara?
It depends on what the building already has and how you want it serviced. Metasys keeps the site on Johnson Controls' native platform; a Niagara front end through Facility Explorer puts JCI controllers on the same open framework as the other brands in your portfolio. We install both and lay out the trade-offs.
Can you add new equipment to our existing Metasys system?
Yes. New controllers are installed on the existing network, programmed, and mapped into the Metasys server and graphics so the building stays on one system.
Our NAE engines and N2 controllers are past end of support. What are our options?
Johnson Controls ended support for NAE35, NAE45, and NAE55 hardware and for legacy N2 controllers in 2026. The usual path is SNE or SNC engines in place of the NAEs and CGM or CVM controllers in place of the N2 devices; the CGM and CVM run on the existing N2 bus, so the building can move to BACnet one trunk at a time. Owners who want an open front end can move the site under Niagara instead. We lay out both paths with costs.
Can JCI controls work alongside other brands?
Yes. JCI controllers communicate over BACnet, so they share data with other BACnet systems and sit alongside other manufacturers' equipment under either a Metasys or a Niagara front end.
Do you work on Johnson Controls systems outside Louisiana?
Yes. We are on-site across Louisiana, travel nationwide for Johnson Controls installation and commissioning work, and support systems remotely in all 50 states over secure VPN.
