WHY COVINGTON & THE NORTHSHORE
Vertex is headquartered in Covington. The Northshore — St. Tammany Parish and adjacent — is our home market and where we run our shop, train our techs, and stage most of our equipment. The commercial building stock here is dominated by healthcare (St. Tammany Health System, Lakeview Hospital, the Ochsner Cancer Center campus), suburban Class A office, K-12 facilities for one of Louisiana's fastest-growing parish school systems, and a growing professional-services footprint serving residents who commute into New Orleans. We know this building stock building-by-building, and we can put a tech on-site here faster than anywhere else.
COVINGTON & THE NORTHSHORE AT A GLANCE
POPULATION

STORM & FLOOD CONSIDERATIONS
The Northshore is shielded from direct Lake Pontchartrain surge by elevation in much of Covington but remains vulnerable to wind damage and inland flooding. Hurricane Ida (2021) caused extensive Northshore power outages — multi-week in some areas. Backup power for medical and commercial buildings is essential, and post-Ida resilience upgrades remain ongoing in many properties.
APPLICABLE BUILDING & ENERGY CODE
Louisiana enforces the Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code (LSUCCC) statewide. Effective January 1, 2023 with amendments, the LSUCCC references the 2021 International Building Code, 2021 International Mechanical Code, 2021 International Energy Conservation Code, and the 2020 National Electrical Code. Louisiana law prohibits local jurisdictions from adopting more or less stringent codes, so the same mechanical and energy provisions apply on every commercial project in the state.
WHY VERTEX IN COVINGTON & THE NORTHSHORE
Built for this building stock.
Our shop, our tools, and our techs are in Covington. For Northshore customers, we are routinely on-site within an hour of dispatch — and our PM contract customers carry written response time guarantees that reflect that reality.
The Northshore medical office building cluster — many of them on or near the St. Tammany / Ochsner campuses — is the kind of mid-size, controls-heavy, comfort-critical building stock our work targets. We know these buildings.
St. Tammany Parish Public Schools is one of the larger K-12 portfolios in Louisiana. School BAS work requires sequence design that handles unoccupied periods, summer breaks, holiday schedules, and post-occupancy daylight savings without operator intervention.
Hurricane Ida (2021) put Northshore power and BAS resilience to a real test. We've worked the resilience-upgrade scope on multiple buildings since — supervisor UPS, generator integration, and remote access designs that don't depend on facility staff being on-site.
